GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - Results from an autopsy released on Thursday indicated that one-time Grand Valley State quarterback Cullen Finnerty had died from pneumonia. The 30-year-old Brighton native went missing on May 26 while on a fishing trip with family members near Baldwin; his body was found in a forest area two days later. Examiners also concluded that the pneumonia was complicated by painkillers and a degenerative brain disease; the painkillers for a back injury suffered during his football playing days, and the brain issues typically seen with those who had multiple concussions or head injuries in the past, again stemming from his playing days.
