UNDATED (WHTC) - Doug Fister scattered seven hits with two strikeouts over eight innings, while Austin Jackson’s solo homer in the fifth inning stood up as the decisive hit, as the Tigers edged the visiting White Sox last night, 2-1, for Detroit’s sixth straight victory and Chicago’s eighth straight defeat. The series at ComericaPark continues this evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC begins at 6:40 PM.

Nick Punto collected two hits and drove in two runs, leading the visiting LA Dodgers to their club record-tying 12th straight road victory, a 6-2 decision over the Cubs yesterday. Chicago has dropped five of its last six contests as the series at Wrigley Field continues this afternoon.

Last night’s scheduled Midwest League game between the Whitecaps and Great Lakes in Midland was cancelled by heavy rains in the first inning that made the Dow Diamond field unplayable. The contest won’t be made up, as this was the final meeting of the season between the two teams. West Michigan returns home to open a three-game series versus Dayton at Fifth Third Ballpark this evening.
