"Judge's Judge" Miles Passes Away Aged 97

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - The man known to many as a “judge’s judge” has died. Wendell Miles passed away on Wednesday at the age of 97. A Holland native and Hope College graduate, Mr. Miles was a county and federal prosecutor before beginning his judicial career at the Ottawa County Circuit Court in 1960. He was appointed to the US District Court bench in Grand Rapids by President Nixon in 1974, and spent over the next three decades there on both a full-time and part-time basis until his retirement in 2008. Funeral arrangements are incomplete through the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, but a memorial service at the federal courthouse in Grand Rapids is being planned in Mr. Miles’ honor.
