Two Deputies Hurt in Arrest of Alleged Home Burglar around Coopersville

COOPERSVILLE, MI (WHTC) - A 19-year-old Muskegon County man who may be behind a series of home break-ins in the Coopersville-Ravenna area is now in custody. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Mark Bennett, the incident occurred in the area of Cleveland Street and 88th Avenue yesterday afternoon. The homeowner had returned to her residence and found the suspect in her driveway; he subsequently jumped into a white vehicle and fled, while she was unharmed, but found her house ransacked.

Two responding deputies suffered minor injuries that required treatment at North Ottawa Community Hospital when their patrol car lost control on 80th Avenue and flipped over. State Police and Muskegon County deputies were able to arrest the unnamed man near Ravenna, and he spent the night in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting arraignment on various charges. The investigation continues, and any tips to the sheriff’s department or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT; http://mosotips.com) are welcome.
