SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The Palisades nuclear power plant near Covert is making progress on cleaning up safety issues. That’s a conclusion from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s annual report issued last night. Regulators, along with officials of plant operator Entergy, were on hand for a two-and-a-half-hour public hearing in nearby South Haven to answer questions. NRC officials say they will still keep extra inspectors at the plant throughout this year to ensure the changes that Plant Manager Tony Williams is implementing will stick. Palisades was recently upgraded from being rated as one of the worst nuclear facilities in the country, but environmental groups are still pushing for a total closure.
