HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - For the second time in less than six months, the Washington Avenue Tunnel underneath the main runway at West Michigan Regional Airport is closed. From today through at least tomorrow night, and perhaps into Friday, city crews will be taking “light measurements and performing other tunnel maintenance.” Problems during installation of new lighting last November led to longer than anticipated closures of the tunnel. It wasn’t disclosed by city officials if this closure is related to the previous matter. Detours utilizing Lincoln Avenue to get around the area are posted. The tunnel was built nine years ago when the FAA mandated a runway extension.
