UNDATED (WHTC) - Adrian held Hope's offense to just 171 yards of total offense in throttling the visiting Flying Dutchmen on Saturday, 24-0. The Orange and Blue return to Holland Municipal Stadium next Saturday to entertain Olivet. Coverage on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live/ is at 12:40 PM.

It was a tough afternoon as well for the two major college football teams in the state who were in action on Saturday, as Michigan State was edged by visiting Ohio State, 17-16, and Central Michigan fell hard at Northern Illinois, 55-24. Nighttime wasn't the right time for Western Michigan either, as the Broncos lost to visiting Toledo, 37-17.

At least Grand Valley State was victorious on Saturday evening. South Haven's Isiah Grimes threw for 411 yards and four touchdowns, three to Charles Johnson, in a 51-43 win at Michigan Tech. The Lakers host Ferris State next Saturday night.

There was one high school game involving a Lakeshore team on Saturday evening, as Zeeland East beat Grand Rapids Union at Houseman Field, 62-20. The Chix are the first team in the Holland-Zeeland area to clinch a playoff berth with their sixth win in as many games; on the other end of the spectrum, losses on Friday by Holland Christian and Fennville means that the Maroons and the Blackhawks join winless Holland and two-win Saugatuck as teams whose seasons will end on October 29 without any state tournament hopes.

In other Hope College athletics on Saturday: Both soccer teams posted victories at Albion, with the men winning, 2-1, and the women cruising, 8-1; and the golfing Dutch took a home-and-home challenge set with Calvin by a total team stroke margin of 36.
