Sanchez Shuts Out Royals, Pitches Tigers to First Place Tie with Sox

UNDATED (WHTC) - Anibal Sanchez spun a three-hit shutout, striking out 10 in the process, as the Tigers blanked visiting Kansas City last night, 2-0. The series at Comerica Park in Detroit continues this evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC is at 6:40 PM.

Detroit pulled into a tie with the White Sox atop of the AL Central race, as Chicago was beaten by visiting Cleveland yesterday, 4-3, thanks in part to a three-run fourth inning by the Indians. The series at US Cellular Field concludes this evening.

Colorado scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, and rain put an end to the proceedings in the seventh frame, as the Rockies defeated the visiting Cubs last night, 10-5. The series at Coors Field in Denver continues this evening.

In Hope College athletics yesterday, the soccer Dutch fell at Alma, 3-2. This afternoon, the golfing Dutch compete in a MIAA Jamboree at South Bend that was postponed from last week; tonight, the volleyball Dutch travel to Trine, while the soccer Dutchmen are home to Calvin.
