DETROIT (WKZO) -- The first witnesses took the stand Monday in the federal corruption trial of Kwame Kilpatrick.  The first person on the stand for the prosecution was Internal Revenue Service Agent Ron Sauer who said the former Detroit Mayor made cash deposits of over 500-thousand dollars into his bank accounts between 2001 and 2008.

Also on the stand was a teller from First Independence Bank who said Kilpatrick often made large cash deposits.  A former body guard of Kilpatrick took the stand and told the court of several trips taken by Kilpatrick and others that were financed by a Grosse Pointe Farms businessman.

Testimony is expected to resume Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
