UNDATED (WHTC) - Doug Fister scattered seven hits with seven strikeouts for his first career shutout, while Delmon Young slugged a three-run homer, as the Tigers blanked visiting Minnesota on Saturday, 8-0. The two teams play a day-night doubleheader at Comerica Park on Sunday; the evening contest will be on 1450 WHTC, beginning at 6:40 PM.

Mark Trumbo's two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning for the LA Angels on Saturday night, as they went on to beat the visiting White Sox, 4-2. The series in Anaheim concludes on Sunday.

John Jay's double in the 10th inning llfted visiting St. Louis past the Cubs on Saturday, 5-4. The rubber game of the series at Wrigley Field is on Sunday.


Isiah Grimes' third TD pass of the game, a 25-yard toss to Darryl Pitts with 1:16 left, gave Grand Valley State a 46-41 win over visiting Ohio Dominican on Saturday night. The Lakers travel to Michigan Tech next Saturday evening.

In state major college football on Saturday: Michigan State held off stubborn Eastern Michigan, 23-7; Michigan lost at Notre Dame, 13-6; Western Michigan downed Connecticut, 30-24; and Central Michigan won at Iowa, 32-31.
