KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- For the second time this year, a fisherman from west Michigan has caught a record size fish in a local river.

The latest lucky angler is Bryan DeGoede of Kalamazoo who says no one was more surprised than he and his fishing buddies when he reeled in the 37.4-pound Black Buffalo fish.

They were fishing in the Kalamazoo River in Allegan County when he landed the 39 inch long monster. It goes into the state’s record books, beating the previous record for a Buffalo Fish by over four pounds.

In May, sport angler Rodney Akey of Niles caught a Flathead Catfish that weighed in at nearly 50-pounds, in the St. Joseph River, setting a record for that species. .
