LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer has lost a vote to outlaw election rigging in the State. She called on the chamber to pass her amendment, which would have made it a crime to convince someone to perjure themselves.
Whitmer claims Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger and Representative Roy Schmidt did just that when they talked Matt Mojzak to run as a Democrat opposing Schmidt after Schmidt left to join the Republican Party. The legislation would have been retroactive to last January, which would have meant it could be applied to Bolger and Schmidt.
The Senate predictably split down party lines on the amendment. The main bill that seeks to make it illegal to accost or invite a 16 or 17-year-old to commit prostitution or any lewd or immoral act, however, passed unanimously.
