DETROIT (WKZO) -- Jury selection continues in the federal corruption case of former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and three other people. By the time a jury pool of 66 is in place, more than 200 possible jurors will have been interviewed.
Defense attorneys are concerned Kilpatrick and the other defendants may not get a fair trial unless the jury is diverse and so far, six of the 36 people who have been approved are African-American. Kilpatrick, his father Bernard, contractor Bobby Ferguson and former head of the Detroit Water Department Victor Mercado are accused of a bid rigging conspiracy while Kilpatrick was mayor and each faces up to 30 years in prison if they are convicted.
