WEST BLOOMFIELD (WKZO) -- For the first time in history, an officer with the West Bloomfield Police Department was killed in the line of duty. Officer Patrick O'Rourke was shot and killed while responding to a call at a home on Forest Edge in West Bloomfield Township. A statement from the department says the 39-year-old officer "was a 12-year veteran assigned to the patrol division."
The statement adds, "during his career, Officer O'Rourke was honored with a Lifesaving Award, three Certificates of Merit, and three Unit Commendations. He was a model police officer, a dedicated husband and father, and a great friend to all who knew him." He is survived by his wife and four young children.
