In Hope College athletics on Friday: The volleyball team defeated Adrian in straight sets (15-9, 15-10, 15-8); the men’s soccer team beat Aurora, 2-1; and the women’s cross-country team tied with Eastern Michigan for first at the George Dales Invitational meet in Three Rivers. Saturday action finds the men’s soccer team hosting Dominican, the women’s team entertaining Illinois Wesleyan, the men’s golf team competes at Kalamazoo College, and the men’s cross country team is at the Calvin invitational.


Alberto Callespo’s pinch-hit single in the ninth inning plated the winning run, as the Angels beat the visiting Tigers on Friday night, 3-2. The series in Anaheim continues on Saturday evening, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 8:40 PM.

Starlin Castro and Alfonso Soriano teamed to drive in seven runs, as the Cubs won at Pittsburgh on Friday night, 12-2. The series at PNC Park continues on Saturday evening.
