KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- They are called “dreamers”, the children of undocumented aliens who have lived here all or most of their lives, raised American but technically illegal.
Recently President Barack Obama signed a waiver allowing them to stay in the U.S. for at least two years if they are in school, working, pointing out that they never intended to break the law.
Several dozen of them protested outside the secretary of State’s office in Kalamazoo Friday because Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is refusing to issue them license plates or driver’s licenses.
Michigan and Arizona are the only two states that currently have the policy. The students are starting a petition drive to get Johnson to reconsider.
