LANSING, MI (WHTC) - Unemployment dipped along the Lakeshore last month. In seasonally unadjusted numbers released yesterday by the state Department of Technology, Management and Budget, joblessness stood at 5.8 percent for Ottawa County in September, and 5.9 percent for Allegan County. Those are decreases of nine tenths of a percentage point and a full percentage point, respectively, from August levels, and compares favorably with a year ago, when those marks stood at 7.7 percent and 8.4 percent. State officials say that typical September patterns were evident in labor markets across Michigan, with gains in education as students returned to school, but losses in leisure and hospitality services as the summer tourism season ended.
