HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Motorists along the Lakeshore are enjoying some of the cheapest gas in the nation right now. Friday morning’s survey of Holland area stations had a per-gallon average of $3.31, with only Oklahoma’s $3.28 level less than that. Rates locally ranged from $3.25 to $3.45. The current average is even less than a year ago, when fuel was running at $3.38 per gallon.
Motorists along the Lakeshore haven’t seen gas prices this low since February. As the day went along, the numbers on marquis kept going down to a mean of a nickel lower at $3.26 by 12 Midnight on Saturday morning. Industry experts say that the faltering world economy has led to a weakening of the crude oil futures market, which has helped spur this current slide.
Triple-A’s daily polling of retailers had more modest numbers of $3.58 nationally, a three-penny hike from last Friday, and $3.41 statewide, the second straight week of a 17-cent drop.
