KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The teenager identified by witnesses as the triggerman who opened fire at an early Sunday morning party along Lakesedge Drive has been charged with open murder, two counts of attempted murder and three felony gun counts.

19-year-old Tyrein Deanthony Sheppard was ordered held without bond. He is specifically charged with shooting 23-year-old Jante Mackerel to death and wounding an 18-year-old who’s name and condition has not been released.

The suspect in Sunday morning’s other homicide in the Vine Neighborhood has also been formally charged. 34-year-old Brian Dwight Peterson is also being held without bond on an open murder charge.

Peterson allegedly intervened in a fight between 24-year-old roommate Luke Vincent and Vincent’s girlfriend at their Cedar St. apartment house, and it ended when the younger man’s head was bashed in with a barbell.

Both could get up to life if convicted of the most serious charges against them.
