GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - A three-year-long scheme to make money through fake online advertising has led a Holland man to four years behind bars and over 1.1 million dollars in restitution. Jeff Folkert was sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty in July to mail fraud charges in a deal with federal prosecutors that had other counts, including ID theft, dropped. Authorities say that his business in Hamilton claimed to be earning substantial revenue from Google when Internet users clicked on ads, but no such arrangement had been in place. Folkert pocketed up to 1.5 million dollars from investors in a Ponzi-like arrangement through 2008.
