GRAAFSCHAP, MI (WHTC) - Fears that a 68-year-old man who was staying at a summer home south of Holland was trapped in a fire were soon allayed this morning.
Crews were dispatched to the residence in the 61 hundred block of 147th Avenue, near 61st Street, around 4 AM to find the residence engulfed in flames, with the living room shortly collapsing into the basement as a result. There were no injuries suffered by firefighters in bringing the blaze under control, but the unnamed man’s car was parked in the driveway and he was unaccounted for. The homeowner shortly arrived at the scene and told authorities that the missing man had left on a trip yesterday, and that the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, which is believed to have been a total loss.
Investigators didn’t immediately determine a cause of the blaze, but believe that it may have started near electrical and gas meters at the western side of the residence.
