New Book On Wasting Taxpayer Money

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) -  A Republican United State Senator's latest list of questionable federal spending shows taxpayer dollars buying menus for never planned space trips, a musical about climate change, and a robotic squirrel, among other things.  Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn's "Waste Book" includes a million dollars a year to produce a menu of food humans could eat on Mars, where NASA has no plans to fly humans.  It also lists a $325,000 grant for a robotic squirrel, to test the interaction between squirrels and rattlesnakes, and nearly $700,000 to a New York-based theater company so it could develop a musical about climate change and biodiversity.  The show, entitled "The Great Immensity," opened in Kansas City this year.

Coburn's 2012 Waste Book details 100 examples totaling nearly 19-billion dollars.
