UNDATED (WHTC) - Mike O’Brien may be making the strongest Democratic challenge yet to Fred Upton’s US House seat. The Herman Miller executive from Douglas has nearly 43 thousand dollars in his campaign war chest, based on the latest federal election documentation submitted on Monday. His campaign garnered over 95 grand in the period between July 29th and September 30th, which is more than the past three challengers combined in the same time frame. Since beginning his organized effort to unseat the nine-term Republican incumbent from St. Joseph, O’Brien has raised just less than 200 thousand dollars while spending 143 grand.
Federal election campaign finance statements were submitted by Congressman Upton hours before Monday night’s deadline. The incumbent Republican from St. Joseph reported raising more than 606 thousand dollars from July 19th through September 30th, bringing the total reelection effort to 3.7 million, and Upton has just over a million dollars in his campaign war chest.
