GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The driver of the SUV filled with Grand Haven High students heading to a state high school girls' basketball tournament game last November that crashed near Lowell will not contest charges stemming from that incident. Although she is now 17, Danielle Michaels will face justice as a juvenile when she goes before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Mark Feyen on November 15th. Prosecutors say that she was hanging up a cell phone call when her vehicle apparently was coming towards a slower vehicle ahead of her. Startled, Michaels swerved to avoid a collision, but lost control, and the SUV struck a median cable barrier and flipped over. She and four other girls in the vehicle were seriously injured, and while there was an open liquor bottle that was found by state police at the scene, investigators don't believe that Michaels had been drinking prior to the crash.
