HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - A two-vehicle crash on Holland’s East Side this morning injured four persons and may lead to a criminal investigation.
According to Holland Public Safety Captain Jack Dykstra, a mini-van apparently pulled out of a stop sign on 24th Street at Country Club Road and into a path of a car. The subsequent broadside collision caused the minivan to roll over, trapping one person that needed extrication by rescue crews.
Two persons in the minivan - 37-year-old Mike Sosa of Spring Lake and 27-year-old Alicia Dieppa of Wyoming- along with the automobile driver, 19-year-old Ashley Charles of Fennville, and passenger 20-year-old Justin Torres of Holland, were all treated at Holland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries; the driver of the minivan fled the scene on foot before authorities arrived.
A person of interest who is believed to have been the driver of the van, 26-year-old Shane Monroe Benedict, was located at an Allegan County home on Tuesday afternoon and questioned. The case will be turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Public Safety officers believe that alcohol may have been a factor as the crash remains under investigation. Any tips to Holland Public Safety or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT, www.mosotips.com) are welcome.
