Happy Homecoming for Hope; Tough Saturday for Lakers, Spartans

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – It was a happy homecoming on several fronts for Hope College's teams on Saturday.

The football Dutchmen downed Alma, 49-14, as Michael Atwell threw for two touchdowns and Reggie Duncan ran for three more. The gridiron team is at Kalamazoo next Saturday, with broadcast time on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live/ at 12:40 PM.

The volleyball Dutch completed a perfect 4-0 weekend hosting its own invitational at DeVos Fieldhouse by defeating Dominican in four sets and Elmhurst in five sets.

The soccer Dutch beat Olivet, 1-0.

Cody Scepaniak threw for one touchdown and ran for two more, as Northern Michigan disposed of visiting Grand Valley State on Saturday, 38-10. The Lakers welcome Northwood to Luebbers Stadium for homecoming next Saturday evening.

In state major-college football on Saturday: Iowa outlasted Michigan State in double overtime, 19-16; Michigan shut out Illinois, 45-0; Western Michigan fell at Ball State in overtime, 30-24; and Toledo outscored Eastern Michigan, 52-47.
