LANSING (WKZO) -- A proposal that would give  public and private employees the constitutional right to organize and bargain collectively through labor unions is becoming a hot-button issue for Michigan voters.

Proposal 2, until recently, has even been higher on the priority list for many than the presidential election.  By the middle of the summer, supporters of the proposal had already spent eight-million dollars on the campaign.  It's estimated that opponents have invested millions as well.

Those in favor of Proposal 2 say that passage ensures the fundamental rights of workers.  Groups who oppose it contend that those rights are not in danger.
