HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - So far, so good.
That's the feeling officials of Macatawa Area Express are having after the first week of their new "Twilight Route" fixed bus services. Unveiled by popular demand on October 1st, a total of 183 rides were recorded in its first six days of operation, including 83 on opening night. The hourly loop through the downtown district, Holland Heights and the US-31 retail corridor was aimed at helping evening workers get to and from their employment, along with assisting those wishing to do some evening shopping. Agency officials add that they expect these numbers to increase through a number of factors, including word-of-mouth and the upcoming Holiday shopping season.
Regular fares apply to the "Twilight Route" that runs from 7 PM to 10 PM Mondays through Saturdays. Funding for this service comes from a federal grant that is augmented by matching funds from MAX.
