KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A conference put on by Community Healing Centers and the Drug Treatment Court Foundation of Kalamazoo County in collaboration with the Specialty Program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse at Western Michigan University was held at WMU's Fetzer center on Thursday morning.
The program Coming Together Kalamazoo, which had many featured speakers including activist and award-winning actor Martin Sheen, was aimed at raising awareness of the community programs and outreach services available those children, families, and individuals struggling with addiction.

The conference also provided attendees the latest information, tools, and knowledge in the treatment field. Professionals from medicine, law, social work, and education were also available to speak with individuals along with providing their own presentations and workshops.
Guest speakers featured at the conference included: Sally Reames, Executive Director Community Healing Centers, and Hon. William G. Schma, President, Drug Treatment Court Foundation of Kalamazoo County; Martin Sheen, Golden Globe and Emmy-Award Winning Actor, Drug/Alcohol Treatment Advocate, and NADCP's First All Rise Amassador; Earl Hightower, Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, Board Registered Interventionist-Level II, and Stanley Goldstein Drug Court Hall of Fame Inductee.
