UNDATED (WHTC) - Six of the nine public school districts and charter schools along the Lakeshore showed losses in the first student count of the academic year held yesterday. The biggest loss came in Zeeland, where there were 56 fewer pupils than a year ago, due in part to ending an academy program, while Saugatuck had the biggest gain of 25. Holland and Vanderbilt Academy also posted increases. West Ottawa remains the area’s largest district by enrollment with 74-hundred-12, while Saugatuck is still the smallest at 837. Ninety percent of state per-pupil funding is based on yesterday’s count, which still must be audited by the OAISD before it is final.
