HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - It was a Red Letter Day … or more appropriately, a Red Letter Evening … for mass transit in the Holland area.
About three dozen passengers enthusiastically boarded three buses around 7 PM last night, happy to be the first to ride MAX Transit’s new “Twilight Route” service. The loop through the downtown district, Holland Heights and the US-31 retail corridor will run hourly from 7 PM through 10 PM six evenings a week, and according to MAX Authority Director Linda LeFebre, it will give residents unable or unwilling to drive a chance to get out and about after hours. The fixed night service was consistently the most requested item in annual customer surveys conducted by MAX, and LeFebre hopes that it can help spread the service beyond its current limits of Holland, Holland Township and Zeeland.
The Twilight Route was made possible through a 60 thousand-dollar federal grant, with the authority required to put up a 50 percent match.
