GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- They are down to ten finalists at ARTPRIZE after the first round of voting ended this weekend in Grand Rapids.
They represent a broad range of styles, from the abstract “Stick-to-it-iveness”, the horse sculptures in the Grand River to the super realistic life-size drawing of elephants. There is the playful powered mobile, the “Song of Lift”, the realistic action sculpture called “The Chase” and thousands of Origami Sheets folded to resemble faces. There are very traditional oils and glass mosaics and the One-shot “lights in the Night” mass launch of Chinese Balloons.
Artist Chris Laporte, who won two years ago is back in the top ten with another pencil drawing called “City Band”.
Voting to pick your favorites among the top ten will continue all week, and conclude Friday night, and then the biggest money prizes in art will be awarded this coming weekend.
