HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - A couple of teens from Arizona visiting the Lakeshore ended up on Holland Hospital beds following a crash on Holland’s North Side yesterday morning. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Converse, 18-year-old Taryn Williams was driving her SUV northbound on US-31, with 17-year-old Jamie Bielmier a front-seat passenger, when she slammed into the semi of William Godfrey as the 52-year-old Portage trucker was attempting to make a Michigan turn north of Greenly Street. It wasn't immediately determined why the SUV collided with the semi, but Bielmier told deputies that she had been talking with the driver before the crash, which may have been a distraction.
It took rescuers about a half hour to get Williams out of her vehicle, and she was initially listed in serious condition; Bielmeier suffered minor injuries, and Godfrey was not hurt. The incident remains under investigation.
