HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - Two 23-year-old Grand Rapids women went on an apparent shopping spree along the US-31 retail corridor on Black Friday, but weren’t about to pay for any of the merchandise.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Wolffis, a store detective was able to take the bags of stolen loot from the two unnamed suspects as they ran out of the Old Navy store on Holland’s North Side before dawn on Friday. When the detective tried to get the license plate number of their van as the suspects were fleeing, the women abruptly drove back to where he was. One of the women tried to grab the bags, while the other drew a gun and threatened the detective. The suspects then took the loot and drove off.
Sheriff’s deputies later stopped the van in West Olive and arrested the women without further incident. A large amount of loot taken from stores on Holland’s North Side and in Muskegon was recovered. The detective was not hurt during the incident. The women spent the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting an arraignment today on various charges. An investigation continues.
