PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) - Looking both ways before crossing not only applies to young pedestrians, but also to young bicyclists, as a 10-year-old Park Township girl learned. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, the unnamed youth suffered critical injuries when she pedaled in front of an approaching minivan while attempting to cross Riley Street near 160th Avenue on Holland’s North Side just before 6 PM last night. The girl was dressed in dark clothing and apparently didn't slow down as she darted out from a friend's driveway into traffic, and the driver couldn't avoid a collision. The victim was eventually airlifted to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment. The minivan driver was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
