HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) - A 17-year-old Hudsonville High School senior died in a crash west of Hudsonville late last night.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin and fellow deputies were called to Van Buren Street about a half mile west of 48^th Avenue in Blendon Township around 11:30 PM on a report of a one-vehicle wreck. An eastbound car, apparently going at a high rate of speed, lost control on the gravel road, veered to the left, and struck a tree. The driver, Patrick Michael Wiltse, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Austin said that results of toxicology tests at a later date should help determine the cause of the crash, which remains under investigation. Grief counselors were on hand at Hudsonville High today for those seeking support following the incident.
