ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) - The Zeeland Board of Education last night unanimously agreed with the recommendation of a retained consultant and has tabbed Calvin De Kuiper to be the top candidate for the district’s superintendent post. De Kuiper was selected from nine hopefuls who submitted applications through a stealth-type “targeted search” that kept their names classified so as to not compromise their current employment situation.
De Kuiper, who had also applied last year for the post but was passed over for Dave Barry, who resigned this past July in a plagiarism scandal, has been Ludington’s school chief for the past eight years. Long-time superintendent Gary Feenstra was lured out of retirement to reassume the chores on an interim basis.
A public interview is set for tomorrow night at Zeeland West High, followed by a meet-and-greet that will also be held the following two days at the Howard Miller Center. A final vote on De Kuiper is slated for November 29th.
In another administrative move last night, the board approved the promotion of Cityside Middle School Principal Jon Voss to interim Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Curriculum.
