GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - A 12-year-old Grand Haven area boy was hospitalized after taking a car out for a spin on Friday afternoon. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Ditmar, calls started coming to Central Dispatch about an erratic-moving vehicle on 144th Avenue heading south from Lincoln Street that had nearly crashed into oncoming traffic. Before police were able to reach the child, the car went off the roadway and flipped over onto a ditch. The buckled-up youth was extricated by rescue crews and taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment. The case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office for review before any charges are filed.
