MT. PLEASANT (WKZO) -- The former Calhoun and Kalamazoo County man now charged with the thrill killing of a woman in Mount Pleasant has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric exam to determine if he can aid in his own defense.
55-year-old Pastor John Douglas White confessed to police that he had been having bad thoughts about his victim, 24-year-old neighbor Rebekah Gay for two weeks before he beat her to death with a mallet and strangled her with a zip tie.
He told police he got the idea from watching online pornography involving necrophilia, but when the time came, he says he couldn’t do it.
He then dumped her body and the towels he used to clean up the blood in a ditch, tossed her purse and keys into a dumpster and parked her car near a bar to throw off police investigating her death.
He is charged with first degree murder.
Police say despite having his confession, they plan to document and be able to prove the case against him. They don’t want him to ever be on the streets again.
