HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - A 5-year-old Holland boy was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash east of the Tulip City yesterday afternoon. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant David VanderPloeg, 26-year-old Aimee Riemersma wanted to turn her SUV left from eastbound Business 196 to northbound 112th Avenue, while 23-year-old Zachary Oudman of Wyoming was driving his pickup truck westbound. Outman apparently drove through a red light, and his vehicle slammed into Riemersma's vehicle, which had proceeded into the intersection on a green directional arrow.
Aidan Riemersma was serious injured in the collision and was taken by ambulance to DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment. His one-year-old brother, seated alongside him in the back, was not hurt, while his mother and Oudman suffered bumps and bruises.
VanderPloeg said that all involved were buckled up or in proper child seating, and added that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
