Panthers, Hawkeyes Excused from State Prep Gridiron Playoffs


UNDATED (WHTC) - Two Lakeshore teams fell in the state high school football tournament on Friday night. West Ottawa lost at Rockford, 35-28, and Hamilton was humbled at Stevensville-Lakeshore, 52-14. Two Hope College women’s teams posted MIAA tournament semifinal victories over Alma in Grand Rapids on Friday. The soccer Dutch downed the Scots, 3-2, and the volleyball Dutch swept the Scots in straight sets. Hope will now face host Calvin for tournament titles on Saturday; at 12 Noon in soccer and at 5 PM in volleyball.


With Hope idle in football until next Saturday’s season finale at Albion, Grand Valley State concludes its home half of the slate on Saturday evening when Wayne State comes to Luebbers Stadium in Allendale. State major college football on Saturday afternoon finds Michigan State home to Nebraska, Michigan traveling to Minnesota, and Western Michigan visiting Central Michigan.


Richard Hamilton and Carlos Boozer each scored 19 points, as the Bulls won at Cleveland on Friday night, 115-86. Chicago is home to New Orleans at the United Center on Saturday evening.


Eric Selleck’s goal with 3:12 left completed San Antonio’s comeback from a 2-0 deficit, as the Rampage beat the visiting Griffins on Friday night, 3-2. Grand Rapids skates in suburban Austin against the Texas Stars on Saturday evening.
