SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) -- Despite dubbing it one of the four worst nuclear plants in the country, N.R.C. officials continue to say the Palisades nuclear power plant is safe. Following a tour of the facility, Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairman Greg Jaczko was asked Friday if there are any plans to close the plant. He says it’s not that bad.
Jaczko said the culture inside Palisades needs to be changed, and added that sort of thing takes time.
The NRC has ordered additional inspections at the plant, the first to be conducted next month. It follows a year of multiple reactor shut-downs, some due to human, others due to mechanical failures.
