ALLEGAN (WKZO) -- George and Cheri Burke, the Allegan County couple that operated an illegal puppy mill that was found to have over 350 dogs packed into cages in a home and a small out building, have been given 60 days in jail and have been barred by court order from owning any animals during a two year probationary period. The sentences were for charges of misdemeanor animal cruelty. The discovery set off a huge volunteer effort to clean up the dogs and get them ready for adoption, and to find more than enough homes to adopt them all.
