GRANDVILLE, MI (WHTC) - Five men vying for the Republican nomination in the US Senate race met at a church in Grandville last night.
Former Holland Congressman Pete Hoekstra, along with Clark Durant, Gary Glenn, Randy Heckman and Scott Boman, answered questions and offered position statements during the two-hour session sponsored by the Gerald R. Ford Republican Women’s Club. These men are looking to challenge two-term Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow in November.
Two other contenders, Peter Konetchy and Chuck Marino, did not attend; Marino dropped out earlier yesterday due to a lack of petition signatures to get on the August 7 primary ballot, and Boman said that he may be forced to quit the race as well for the same reason.
The deadline for filing such petitions with the Secretary of State is at 4 PM today, and as of dawn, only Durant and Hoekstra had made such submissions.
