DETROIT (WKZO) -- Part of the Gateway bridge project has opened. A new truck road connecting the Ambassador Bridge to expressways opened on Monday. It's part of the long-delayed 230-million dollar Gateway Project, a plan to establish direct links between the bridge and nearby highways.
The project got underway in 2004, and following legal proceedings between the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Detroit International Bridge Company, portions of the project are starting to be completed. The entire project is expected to be finished sometime this fall.
