HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Storms that swept through the Lakeshore yesterday caused two major events to make scheduling changes. Tulip Time officials cancelled Kinderplaats, the Art & Craft Fair and all of the Dutch Dancing performances. Hope College switched its graduation ceremonies from Holland Municipal Stadium to DeVos Fieldhouse and pushed the proceedings for nearly 700 graduating seniors back an hour.
The Hope commencement exercise before around four thousand included remarks by English Department Professor Heather Sellers; the conferring of honorary degrees upon former Board Chair Joel Bouwens and Martie Bultman, wife of President James Bultman; and the presentation of the Hope Outstanding Professor Educator Award to Dr. Sonja Trent-Brown of the Psychology Department.
Among the items on the Tulip Time schedule for today, weather permitting: The “Let There be Music” show opens a week-long matinee run at Evergreen Commons; Dutch Dancing all day at Centennial Park; the Carnival from 2 to 9 PM outside of the Civic Center; New Odyssey starts a week-long dinner concert series at the Haworth Inn; an organ concert tonight at Pillar Church; and a “Big Band Jazz Experience” tonight at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
