MIRS: Hoogendyk Pushes Pause Button on Challenge to Upton

LANSING, MI (WHTC) - It's a three-day pause for a man who wants to represent Southwest Michigan in Congress next January.

According to Lansing-based MIRS, Jack Hoogendyk sent out an e-mail to supporters, saying that he's suspending his own campaign for the Republican Party nomination in the 6th US House District in Michigan for 72 hours so that he can help Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock's challenge of GOP incumbent US Senator Richard Lugar. Hoogendyk, a one-time Michigan state legislator from suburban Kalamazoo, asked his supporters to join him in backing Mourdock, who has national support from Tea Party interests.

Hoogendyk is making his second challenge of incumbent Fred Upton's (R-St. Joseph) seat in Congress, and was soundly defeated four years ago when he was the GOP challenger to long-time US Senator Carl Levin (D-Detroit).
