BRIDGMAN, MI (WHTC) - Memories of Wes Leonard may come back to the minds of Fennville High School basketball fans as the Blackhawks conclude regular season play this evening at Bridgman.
It was exactly 52 weeks ago when the junior star sank a last-minute basket that enabled Fennville to edge the visiting Bees and complete an unbeaten campaign; a few moments later, Leonard collapsed and died of a heart condition.
According to Bridgman High Athletic Director John Norton, there will be a moment of silence before tonight's tip off in honor of Leonard, and the Bees may be wearing Wes Leonard Heart Team t-shirts during warm-ups as well. The WLHT has installed AED’s at a number of schools in his memory to prevent similar occurrances, including Bridgman, where Norton said that he has already undergone specialized training to effectively use the machine.
