HOLLAND TOWNSHIP (WHTC) - For the second time this month, Ottawa County health officials have issued a no-body contact advisory for Lake Macatawa at Dunton Park Beach because of an algae bloom. Health officials say the public should avoid any contact with the waters of the lake until the advisory is lifted. The algae blom is characterized by a pea-green tint to the water, often described as having the consistency of paint or having scum floating on the surface. Exposure of the algae on the skin can cause a rash, hives or skin blisters, while swallowing water can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting.
