LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Snyder is asking the U.S. Small Business Administration to declare a state of disaster in Genessee County, paving the way for financial assistance to residents and businesses affected by last month's severe storms and floods. Recently, representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency conducted a damage assessment and determined that the extent of the damage did not merit a Presidential Disaster declaration.
Governor Snyder says that even though this incident did not rise to the level of a Presidential Disaster declaration, he wants to make sure that all avenues for possible assistance are explored and made available to residents to assist in recovery. He is hopeful that the Small Business Administration will honor the request and make low-interest loans available to residents as they work to rebuild.
